Metal Protection Tubes (MPT)

High temperature to protect platinum or base metal thermocouples


Mullite Protection Tubes

  • Maximum temperature range 2800°F
  • Impervious to gasses at high temperature
  • Good shock and chemical resistance

Alumina Protection Tubes

  • Maximum temperature range 3200°F
  • Fair shock resistance, preheating recommended
  • Resists chemicals, will not contaminate platinum

Silicon Carbide Protection Tubes

  • Excellent thermal conductivity, responds quickly to temperature change
  • Alternative to cast iron tubes, eliminating iron contamination
  • Special surface treatment assures maximum resistance to metal penetration into the contained thermocouple
  • Available with or without collars
  • Lengths from 12" to 48" in 6" increments

Silicon Carbide Protection Tube (SPT)

Silicon Carbide Tubes provide excellent thermal conductivity for quick response to temperature changes. They can be used as an alternative to Cast Iron Tubes, thus eliminating the possibility of iron pick-up. Special surface treatment assures maximum resistance to metal penetration for protection of the contained thermocouple. Protection tubes are available with or without collar in standard lengths from 12" to 48".

Metal Ceramic Protection Tube (LT-1)

  • Excellent oxidation resistance to 2200°F
  • Resists wetting from metals, alloys, and furnace slags
  • Superior to ceramics in thermal shock, mechanical shock, and impact
  • Less resistant to shock and impact than metal alloys
  • LT-1 tubes standard with 3/4" conduit connector
  • Available lengths 12" to 48" in 6" increments

Cast Iron Protection Tubes (CIT)

  • Used in reducing atmospheres to 1600 F non-oxidizing atmospheres to 2000°F
  • Tubes 7/8" ID, 1 5/8" OD with 3/4" NPT internal thread
  • Available lengths 12" to 48" in 6" increments

Tercod Pyrometer Tubes (TPT)

  • For monitoring, melting, holding high temperatures of aluminum, other non-ferrous metals up to 2300°F
  • Carbon bonded silicon carbide, isostatically formed around threaded pipe for attachment ease
  • Available in 1/2", 3/4" NPT pipe, lengths 12" to 48", 6" increments

Silicon Carbide Tubes provide excellent thermal conductivity for quick response to temperature changes. Ceramic Bore Insulator (CBI)

  • Thermocouple insulators withstand elevated temperatures and thermal shock
  • Mullite resists thermal shock up to 2800°F
  • Alumina resists thermal shock up to 3400°F
  • CEL stocks Mullite and Alumina insulators in many diameters, bore sizes and lengths

Drilled Protection Wells (DPW)

  • Drilled bar stock, precision machined, highly polished
  • For use in high pressure or severe vibration environments
  • Used in power plants, chemical or petro-chemical plants
  • Used to measure temperatures in steam, water air lines.
